Summer in Niseko has officially kicked off with the opening of the Hanazono Activity Centre on the 24th June. With several fun and exciting summer activities including mountain biking, kayaking, nature treks and wake boarding they have definitely catered for everybody. Continuing with the sporting scene, next weekend will see the 2012 Niseko Hanazono MTB cup commence. This cross country race will see all athletes from elite to beginner battling it out to complete for the title of the MTB Cup.
This event is just the training ground for most riders as the 3rd annual Niseko Hanazono Hill climb is set to start on the 4th August. A fully packed 2 day event which will see the competitors travel from Kutchan to Go-shiki Onsen, racing over 15km and climbing more than 617 vertical metres. Both of these events are in conjunction with the annual Kutchan Jaga-matsuri (Potato Festival) which commences in August, celebrating the famous potatoes that the area is known for.
